Located just minutes away from Apalachicola is St George Island. It is home to miles of protected untouched beach in the state park on one end of the island, to restaurants, vacation homes and private communities at the other.
St George Island is a 28-mile barrier island known to have some of the most beautiful, serene beaches on the Gulf Coast. It is one of the few unspoiled barrier islands in Florida, with miles of uncrowded beaches. Sun, swim, fish, observe nature... it's completely up to you.
Visitors to St George Island can rent a beach cottage, a multi-story luxury beach home, or stay at one of the Island's hotels or inns. Well-behaved pets are welcome in many of the beach rental homes.
St George Island State Park occupies the last nine miles of the eastern end of the island. The park has a series of hiking trails, boardwalks, picnic areas, and observation platforms.
Rent a bike and ride the paved bike trail along the main road or head down to the state park for a challenging ride on the off road trails. Kayaks, motorbikes, and other motorized vehicles are available for rent as well.
St George Island has several restaurants that are well worth visiting. Nearly all of the restaurants on "The Island" (as the locals say) have a view of the water, be it the Gulf of Mexico or the Apalachicola Bay.
